Gneiss




Gneiss is foliated metamorphic rock that has a banded appearance and is made up of granular mineral grains. It typically contains abundant quartz or feldspar minerals.

  • Intermediate to light color; medium – coarse crystals.
  • Coarsely banded, fine dark bands/coarse light bands.

Composition: Quartz, feldspar, mica.

Formed from metamorphosed granites or sandy marine sediments.
